Principal's Welcome.

Welcome to the Hanmer Springs Primary School Website. Our school is located in the middle of an Alpine Resort with fantastic

views of the mountains which surround the Hanmer Basin.

Hanmer Springs School caters for children from Year 0 to Year 8, and

provides a positive and supportive learning environment which respects the individuality of each child. We cater for the children's individual learning needs by identifying strengths and barriers, helping children to succeed, encouraging growth in self-confidence and by preparing children for lifelong learning through a balanced curriculum. Important school wide learning outcomes for our children this year include:

developing confidence using ICT tools to enhance and improve learning
improving understanding of cybersafety and work towards digital citizenship
use an inquiry approach to learning to develop deeper understanding
developing increased fluency in Te Reo and Tikanga
understanding what they are learning and why it is important to them (Learning intentions and success criteria)
develop leadership skills and participate as school representatives
improve proofreading skills and apply spelling strategies to written work.

We are also working hard on improving learning outcomes and achievement in literacy and numeracy and ensuring appropriate and timely support.

Our values team of 4 senior children are working to help promote and develop our school focus values throughout the school. This year these are EXCELLENCE (aim high, persevere and B.E.S.T better every single time) and INTEGRITY (acting with honesty, being true to oneself and taking responsibility)

We as staff are learners too and our professional development and goals strongly link to children's learning and achievement. As a close knit staff we believe in collaboration, supporting each other and building consistency of best practice across the school.

Our focus school key competencies this year are about being self managers, being connected and being future focused.

Among many things children will be learning to:

* develop independence and organisation skills

* develop as team players

* develop environmental awareness

* improve cooperation

* be actively involved

We welcome parents, caregivers and new members of the Hanmer community. We have an open door policy and look forward to building on and creating new partnerships as we work together to engage children in learning and achievement.
